new and improved blog!

up until now, the way i've had a "blog" up on the site was by having an rss feed for the actual "blog" part, then using an external script (this one, to be exact) to get the html to put it on the site. and it worked well enough for me considering i kept it that way for about a year, but it also presented two very annoying limitations:

• adding html to rss entries were an absolute pain in the ass. i was effectively limited to using mostly plain text
• the server that was hosting the javascript i used for the feeds was quite slow, which meant pages that used it would take ages to load and i'd negatively affect people trying to navigate the site

it got to a point where i didn't want to deal with it anymore, so now i have this blog page to replace it. it works a lot better and im really happy with how it came out.

the rss feed does still exist, it's just nowhere near as prevalent on the site as it used to be. it now just announces when new blog entries are added. you can still find it through the link on the bottom of the entries menu
